September is National Preparedness Month!
On August 3, 2026, Ida Patterson, Program Manager for Disaster Recovery at the Mississippi Urban League, met with the Fred Gross Seniors to emphasize the importance of being prepared for any emergency. Ida shared key tips on building a disaster preparedness kit, the value of a weather radio, and the necessity of a personalized disaster plan for each household.
Each Fred Gross Senior received:
- A disaster preparedness kit checklist
- A 1-person Ready America disaster kit
- A weather-resistant document holder
- MEMA’s Disaster Preparedness Guide for Older Adults
Preparedness gives us, especially older adults, the confidence and security we need during emergencies. Seniors expressed their appreciation for the practical information and resources, noting the peace of mind that comes from being prepared.
