Empowering Participants Through Financial Education & Homeownership!

September 14, 2026

The Mississippi Urban League would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Paula Lawson, Mortgage Loan Officer at Hope Credit Union, for sharing her time, knowledge, and expertise with participants in the Mississippi Urban League Individual Development Account (IDA) Program on Monday, September 14, 2026.

During the session, participants received valuable information to help strengthen their financial knowledge and prepare for future financial goals. Each participant received a Budget Planner and John Hope Bryant's Financial Literacy for All as resources to support continued financial education. Additionally, I spoke with participants about the Reclaim Your Vote initiative. I informed them that National Voter Registration Day is taking place on September 15, 2026, and encouraged everyone to register to vote and check their current registration status.

Paula provided an informative overview of homeownership opportunities through Hope Credit Union, including:

 - Available homeownership programs
 - Types of mortgage loans
 - The homebuying process
 - The importance of home inspections
 - Preparing financially for homeownership
 - Steps participants can take to become mortgage-ready

We appreciate Paula Lawson and Hope Credit Union for investing in the financial empowerment of our participants and helping make homeownership a more attainable goal for families in our community.
