Food Insecurity

June 17, 2026

Food insecurity continues to impact families across Mississippi, but together we are making a difference.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Mississippi Urban League partnered with the Mississippi Food Network to distribute 20-pound boxes of fresh produce, filled with nutritious staples such as cabbage, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, and zucchini, to families in need. 1,200 boxes (24,000 lbs) of produce were distributed at these locations.

Our distributions reached communities in:

  • Bolton
  • Yazoo City (Tulane Baptist Church and Trinity Church)
  • New Horizon Baptist Church
  • TEAMS in Port Gibson
  • Vine Community Center
  • Mt. Elam Church

These community distributions are about more than providing food—they help improve access to healthy meals, reduce the burden on household budgets, support better health outcomes, and strengthen communities facing economic hardship. Fresh, nutritious food is essential for families to thrive, and we are proud to partner with organizations that share our commitment to ensuring no Mississippian is left behind.

A heartfelt thank you to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Mississippi Food Network, our community partners, volunteers, and everyone who helped make these distributions possible. Together, we are building healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities across Mississippi.
